Learning to want less

Posted in Contentment

Although we don’t always make them public, we all have desires, goals, ambitions, heady thoughts of the things we might achieve.

Ambition is a great trait: the force that drives us to be as good as we can be, to reach as high as we can reach. But we mustn’t let ambition mask how blessed we are in our current lives.

A constant desire for more – more money, more time, a better job, a bigger family, a nicer car, faster broadband – can get in the way of being grateful for what we already have.

Contentment comes not from reaching our goals, but from recognising that we’re on a path that will see us right.

Strive for greatness every day, but never stop learning contentment with what we already have.
